People are starting to realize the importance of self-defense day by day and for this purpose, they have started taking self-defense classes and started carrying self-defense weapons with them. Whenever we think about carrying a weapon for our safety, we normally think about a gun and never or very rarely about a knife. After all, we are living in the 21st century and not in the Medieval era. But we are also aware of the fact that guns require a legal permit and license to buy, carry and use them whereas self-defense knives do not require any kind of license or permit.
Due to laws and legalities regarding guns, not everyone can carry them for self-defense. However, this is not the case with self-defense weapons, which you can carry around easily and because of their utility use, the laws regarding them are lax and not that strict. Knives are easy to conceal and carry as well as compared to a gun but still, you should check the laws of your state before carrying them around with you for self-defense. The use of self-defense knives for self-defense is a heated discussion nowadays and people generally have two types of opinions regarding this.
Should Not Be Used as Weapons
The first one is that knives are the best EDC tools and they should only be used as a utility tool. They must not be used as a weapon and using them as weapons will only land you in trouble especially if you don’t know how to use them in fight properly. Tools allow us to do a variety of jobs and we all are well aware of the use and essentiality of knives in our daily lives. They help us to cut fruits and vegetables, slice them, chop woods, cut ropes, open letters, etc and it is best to use them as a tool only. Whereas, a weapon is something which is used to provide harm and mostly is used in a fight. A weapon can also be used for self-defense but even then it is used to provide someone else harm and is designed specifically for this purpose and works better providing efficient results in such scenarios.
- One of the reasons of not carrying a knife as a weapon is that it is considered as a white weapon, therefore, it must not be carried in public and brandished as a weapon without any legit reason.
- Also, people usually believe that knives are not banned and are legal to carry, however, some specific types of knives are illegal to carry and heavy charges are imposed on the person carrying or brandishing them.
- Carrying any of the self-defense knives with you can result in accidentally hurting anyone.
- Also, carrying self-defense knives and using them without proper care also proves to be harmful and can hurt you instead of hurting your opponent.
- People usually confuse regular knives with self-defense knives, when in fact such knives are sharp, designed for tactical purposes and feature razor-sharp and durable blades for such purpose.
- Carrying a self-defense knife with you requires lots of responsibility and should be kept carefully, and most of our population do not take this matter seriously or with responsibility.
- Fighting with self-defense knives can be pretty nasty and if the person fighting with them is not trained, then this can turn into a disaster. In self-defense, you must only use these knives if you are trained properly on how to use them and if not, then you should avoid using knives for such a purpose.
Should Be Used as Weapons
The second opinion of people is in favor of the use of self-defense knives for self-defense. They think that these knives prove to be very effective in such a situation and prove to be more beneficial than guns etc. The following are the reasons, self-defense knives are an excellent choice for use as weapon.
- They are easy to carry and are easy to conceal as well, which is one of the characteristics of a self-defense weapon.
- Knives are easy to use and can be carried around easily i.e. inside the bag, under the socks, and around the neck by dangling them there with the help of a paracord.
- Self-defense knives prove to be a good choice as a weapon in such states where even carrying firearms is prohibited yet alone using them. So, in these states, you can carry knives as a self-defense weapon.
- Mostly weapons require a concealed weapon permit if you want to carry them around with you. With knives, you will not have to worry about such a permit and you will be able to carry them around easily.
- Knives act as a utility tool and as a weapon as well. So, carrying one thing will prove to be a solution to your many problems. Self-defense knives will help you out in emergency situations i.e. in a car accident scenario or in a self-defense scenario.
So, now we have a clear idea of using self-defense knives for self-defense. What do you think? Should these knives be used or not?
